It is with a heavy heart that the team at The New Apton Centre, Age Concern will have to close its doors on the 9th of September unless it is able to raise £75,000 to keep the centre open.

For nearly 50 years, Age Concern has supported thousands of older people in Bishop's Stortford and surrounding towns, by providing a safe space where they can have fun and reconnect with their community. In addition, for every older person is a loved one and carer who has in turn received vital respite during what could be challenging periods in a families life.

Dementia, depression, audio and mobility challenges are just some of the obstacles that face our lovelies, and we at the centre have worked to enable them to maintain their independence and live their best life possible.

For many of our volunteers from the SEND community, The New Apton Centre has also been a home where people can learn social skills and gain work experience to help them live independent lives. For our staff and other volunteers, this is their family.

As well as supporting the lovelies and the members of the New Apton Centre, Age Concern was instrumental throughout Operation Community during Covid, providing food and medical supplies to the vulnerable in our communities as well as supporting a Befriend service which helped fight isolation.

Bishop's Stortford has proven time and time again that when we work together, great things will happen, we hope that this is one of these times.
