MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!
The New Apton Centre is run by a self-funding charity Age Concern, Bishop's Stortford. As such, the operations and longevity of our service depends on gaining financial support from our fundraising efforts, and it's simple the more we raise the more we can do; the more people we can visit, the more calls we can make to ensure we can reach as many people as possible that are socially isolated or feeling lonely and start to provide them with the support they need to live the best life in their later stages of life. But we need help, our numbers are growing and we need additional staff to support our clients and continue to help our service grow.
The Practical difference we make:
Our Centre provides a safe and warm environment that hosts over 400 attendees per month over the age of 50, providing 2400 hot meals, a program of choice-based activities, workshops and events that are key to supporting the health and well-being.
What our Clients Say:
'I really enjoy coming to the centre, it gives me a chance to get out and socialise and I love to have a good chatter.' Vi has been coming to the centre for years and as well as the social benefits, she also feels that her sons who live further away, are comforted by the fact they know she is getting out and having a fulfilled day.
'Living with my son, the centre offers me the opportunity to be independent and as active as I can be.' John started coming to us when he found he was getting less mobile and felt like he was becoming a bit cut-off socially.
What our users’ careers say:
‘I would like to thank both you all for your kind help with Dad, the respite that we get from the club just about keeps us sane!’ Pauls’ dad has been attending the centre for the past year, having moved in with him following the loss of his mother. The support from the centre has been described by them both as their lifeline.
We support carers by providing careers with approximately 12,000 hours of much-needed rest bite and host supporting organisation regularly to ensure they have access to support groups for careers for free.
